The third paragraph in the Wikipedia entry for Munster Rugby says :

“Munster is known for its fan support and game day atmosphere”

Anyone who watched the scenes following the teams victories in the Heineken Cup will have no doubt that rugby is a huge sport in the province. It is no surprise to learn that there is Social Networking site for munster supporters which aims to keep fans up to date with all the latest news and discuss topics of interest too.

MyMunster.com is one of a growing breed of social networking sites that cater to a specific, targetted audience (in this case, Munster Rugby supporters). You might be thinking what’s the point of a niche social networking site. Why not just connect on Facebook or Bebo? Isn’t that what those sites are for – connecting people with similar interests?

The answer to that is – yes, that’s what Facebook is supposed to be about. In reality, many people find that there is a lot of “noise” to contend with. You log on to the site and are bombarded with requests to take quizzes, join groups, poke someone, throw snowballs or whatever. Pretty soon, logging on to the site fills you with dread.

A social networking site for Munster supporters like MyMunster.com, is like joining a more exclusive club. The people behind the site are passionate fans who want to connect with other like minded individuals. They are passionate about bringing the latest news to members of the site. They are passionate about developing the game in the province and encouraging youngsters into the sport. This is done via the “Play to Win” feature of the site. Credits can be purchased and then used to enter competitions which are run regularly throughout the year. Play to Win should be promoted more actively on the home page. It’s not until you become a member that you find out you can actually contribute to the development of the game in such an active way.

If you’re a Munster Rugby fan you really should check out MyMunster.com and connect with people who are passionate about their sport.
