As announced in the budget today, the CSO is working on a new national welfare index. No doubt it will keep a committee of well paid folk busy for the next couple of years. Brian Lenihan said in his speech to the Dáil that
“The government has committed to the introduction of a new national performance indicator to allow a variety of quality of life measurements to be assessed and reported on a regular basis”
The gubbernment are basically following the lead of UK Prime Minister David Cameron who announced something similar in November.
This index will be about as useful as someone telling you that you look like shit after a late night drinking session. Yet more Fianna Fáil thumb twiddling.
