A tale of two plaques: Wicklow Town Heritage Trail and destructive local yobs

Took a short evening walk with Dad (recovering well after heart surgery and long stay in hospital) around the pier and harbour area in Wicklow Town yesterday. The place has never looked as well.

Only noticed the Wicklow Town Heritage Trail plinths which were erected some time ago following the efforts of the Wicklow Chamber of Commerce to get funding for them.

Here’s one telling how Wicklow got its name. Looks rather well in the brilliant evening sunshine.

The next point on the trail leads the visitor to the remains of the Black Castle. Here’s how the plaque looks.

HT2

Destroyed by local yobs who have no pride in their town or themselves. Makes me sick to see stuff like this. Makes me sick to see people littering. Sick to see dog shit all over the footpaths too.

I cannot understand it and it makes me very sad indeed.
