Low Calorie Fish and Chips as offered by Beshoff’s in Dublin.
zsenya (owner of the image [cc]) quite rightly says “What’s the point?” . Obviously, there IS a point but a chipper isn’t the place to go if you want a low calorie meal. By the looks what’s in the box, the low calories are coming from less chips and less fish and a bit of salad thrown in for good measure. In fairness, maybe they are cooked in special low fat oil as well. You know, one of those good oils the Italians drink by the gallon and helps them live well into their hundreds. They tell the world it’s Olive Oil they use, but really it’s a secret oil nobody else knows about and is traded illegally and controlled by the mafia.
The unfortunate thing for the human species is that we crave fat. Hot, greasy, vinegar soaked chips satisfy that craving like nothing else. Eating a low calorie alternative must be like pouring watery milk on strawberries as a substitute for cream. Nah, either eat the nice foods and do some exercise or just get fat and deal with it. The low calorie option is for losers.

AJ, I am clearly limping behind the times: I missed your Valentine week’s header.
To illustrate your point: When I was little there were two types of butter in our house (for reasons of economy). One, with a certain amount of disdain, was called “butter” (to call it margarine being rather common), the other was called “good butter”, ie the real thing.
What is so annoying how many a customer is being led up some unscientific garden path by promises of buying the ‘healthy’ alternative; making the greedy feel better about STILL stuffing their faces. Read the back of some packaging, also known as the ingredients list: The REAL thing being replaced by food labs with an array of rather interesting if somewhat alarming sounding add-ons which is enough to make me immediately lose my appetite and put it back on the shelf.
As you say: Either indulge in the real thing or chew on a carrot.
