This week’s header image on le craic

Welcome2010TheMoon

Well, this feels like a Sunday so I’m changing the header image today even though it’s Friday 1st January 2010. Had to get rid of the Christmas themed header.

I’ve gone all futuristic with this weeks image. It’s based on a photo of last nights partial eclipse of the moon. At this point in the history of humankind, I really thought we’d be living on the moon, having robots do all our work and flying around in spaceships. Alas, that is not the case. All those dreams of marvellous technological advances I watched as a lad on Tomorrow’s World and Beyond 2000 have come to nothing.

I think the well known actor Simon Pegg put it very well on Twitter this morning when he woke up and asked :

SPegg2010

Indeed, where the fuck is MY flying car?

Happy New Year spacefans.

  1. I think you might be a little harsh here, AJ. Who sold us those promises of your futuristic vision? And – more to the point – why did we believe them to come true so soon? What’s the rush anyway?

Admittedly, Orwell’s 1984 has come true (now if he wasn’t a visionary, I don’t know who is). He also managed – at an impressionable age of mine – to plant a tiny seed of paranoia in my head. In the olden days we were threatened with God watching over us and reading all our thoughts (surely, the size of the world’s population being as it is there might be the odd occasion when HE is distracted by paying attention to, say, a child dehydrating in some god forsaken place instead of one of my white lies).

Anyway, God can take it easy now since we have CCtv cameras to watch over our every move. Soon I won’t be able to go to the toilet any more.

    Happy 2010.

PS I have just spent some of the future I had a few minutes ago writing to you. Mwah

  2. You’re right there’s no hurry (as the quote says), but still – we should at least be all driving around in more environmentally cars at this stage.
