Columbus introduced the potato to Europe - after his travails and his compass led him to the wrong continent. Why shouldn't the Irish variety be enjoyed anywhere in the world? Deep fried, mashed, roasted, gratin or turning green and sprouting. To ease whatever your grievance is: The whole thing probably just a publicity stunt of the Irish tourism office.
