It’s Christmas

Posted by: | Comments (0)

By the wonders of technology I’m writing this post from the recliner in the sitting room. Christmas candle is lighting and making a nice smell, tv is on RTE and the mass from Malahide. I fulfilled my obligation last night so I don’t have to give it my full attention.

Relaxing day in prospect – the rush is over for another year. Happy Christmas.

Well, it’s been a busy week. The days have pretty much been complete blurs of noise and activity as the Christmas shopping season reaches its peak. Internet activity has been virtually non existent as a consequence.

Only caught up with what’s been happening in the world today & yesterday. I didn’t miss the news. I revelled in being completely and blissfully unaware of it all. Staying in a hotel for the week close to work was a bit of a novelty. An iPhone with some newly downloaded audiobooks and comedy podcasts provided my nightly entertainment.

Reality moment during the week came from a grandmother who arrived looking to get something done with photograph of her 10 minute old grandson. The photograph was on mobile phone having been sent by her daughter early on Friday morning.

I told her I could make up some prints of the image but the quality wouldn’t be great. I said : “But sure, you’ll be able to get better photographs later on when he’s a bit older”

“No, I won’t be able to. He died an hour later.”

And in an instant, not only did I wish the ground would swallow me up right there and then for saying the wrong thing, but I also realised how ridiculously trivial are my own troubles in comparison to that woman and her grieving daughter.

IrelandsPotato

Feckin’ Italians do it over here, and now the Taiwanese do it over there. They take our humble spud and make a fast food business out of it. Would the Taiwanese allow an Irish person to sell them Thai food? NO they most definitely wouldn’t.

A really tweet tale of love

This is just lovely. Family found a chick that had fallen from its nest and nurse it back to health. This few minute slideshow is as good as any feelgood film I’ve watched this year. Beautiful.

He he he – Sketchy Santa

SketchySantaPhoto

Just one example from the must see website of the season – Sketchy Santas.  Wondering if this is an Irish Santa from the 80′s? The bags the two girls are holding are pointing in that direction.
