Today FM frivolously use issue of clerical child abuse in their advertising
ByExhibit A: From Saturday’s Irish Times.

Today FM are delighted with their listenership figures in the latest JNLR’s so they run a 1/4 page full colour ad on Page 9 of the paper.
Invoking the visit of Pope John Paul II to Ireland in 1979 the ad reads:
“According to the very latest Ye Olde Book of Numbers Today FM now has close to one million people every week. The last time someone gathered that many Irish people together in one place, God organised it for him.
To our devoted listeners, we have only one thing to say: thanks a million. To the yet-to-be-convered: listening is believing, so get the flock over here. Today!”
Nice, bright and breezy, tongue in cheek copy. All good. It’s the bit above that where the ad is spoiled.
“Young people of Ireland I love you” might sound a bit dodgy in 2009.”
Highly inappropriate to use the issue of clerical child abuse in a frivolous way like this to promote a radio station. Can only imagine the ad people sitting around thinking. “Roight, we’re torgetting a demographic that remembers the Pope’s visit to Ireland . Iconic time yeah, and with the Ryan report being topical it covers all bases goys. We’ve got the nostalgia and modern all wrapped up in one sweet package. Cool, yeah? Yeah, cool. Right – done. Pint?”
Seriously NOT cool Today FM. You shower of morons.
