TEDx Dublin – Friday 12th June
Posted by: | Comments
Woohooo! A TEDx event is being held in Dublin on Friday 12th June.
TED – Technology, Entertainment, Design.
An organisation which “believes in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world.”
Each year, at the annual TED conference, various thinkers and doers from different fields are challenged to come along and give “the talk of their lives” in 18 minutes.
And boy, have their been some talks. I just love them and to give you an idea of the type of talk – have a look at the one by Benjamin Zander which I mentioned on my Posterous account. It’s one of my favourites – but there are many more and they are all available to view for free on the TED website.
TEDx is a way for local communities to create and host an unofficial TED-style event.
They follow the same format of the TED conference:
“short, carefully-prepared talks on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and wonder — and to provoke conversations that matter.”
A Facebook group has been set up for the Dublin event and more information will be added there as it becomes available.
According to the TEDx website, there is also an event planned for Galway on the 9th of December.
Looking forward to seeing the speaker list for this, and staying tuned to see how to apply for tickets as they are limited to 100 places.

Traffic Blues – the new Sunday night programme from RTE starts this week. It’s going to shine a light on the shocking behaviour on Irish roads – as if we need a TV programme to shine a light on that particular topic.
You can even see evidence of it on Twitter, where people are Twittering while driving, sometimes taking a photograph and Twittering that or boasting about how quick the trip from point A to point B was.
Many times I’ve just wanted to reply to these idiots “YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON” but I have to bite my fingernails instead and scream internally. But one of these days, I will let loose and call them out for their selfish, dangerous behaviour.
Anywhoo, here’s a little bit of the blurb about the programme.
Penalty points kill too apparantly.
I’ll be giving it a watch on Sunday as I’m sure many others will but I’d still prefer to be watching Glenroe at 8.30 on a Sunday.

Darragh Doyle is jumping out of a plane for Carelocal
Posted by: | Comments
Darragh Doyle is raising a few bob for charity and one I never heard of either – Carelocal.
Carelocal is a Dublin based charity that matches volunteers with senior citizens living in their area.
The priority of Carelocal is to identify frail and housebound older people who are experiencing social isolation, as these are one of the most invisible and neglected groups of vulnerable people in our community.
As well as the one-to-one visitation in the person’s home, they provide day trips and social outings, live musical entertainment in Community centres and residential homes and information and advocacy.
Truly, a wonderful and worthy cause and deserves great support.
Here’s the link to do just that —> Support Carelocal via Darragh Doyle’s Skydive.
Best of luck to the man.
Oh, if you fancy adding your own caption to the above photoshopped image, download it from here and then use Bubblesnaps to add the words.

It’s an offer you just can’t refuse

Snapitup.ie has this incredible offer running at the moment.
€1 for a Cuisine De France Parisien. It’s just the perfect thing if you “had a bad day at work or are you just not bothered coooking?”
Tony is on hand in the Mace at Balally Luas stop with this amazing offer of a stone cold french bread roll for €1. It’s going to cheer you right up. Why, I can just visualise myself now – setting out the table and cutting the roll into nice little slices and having a glass of water with it for my dinner. Omm nommm nommm.
Seriously though, if you’re going to advertise your special offers put a bit more effort into the presentation and wording. You might also want to reconsider using a security camera photograph of the premises, or even one that doesn’t look like it was taken through a peephole.
Just sayin’ is all.
