The trumpet shall sound

Culch.ie has a competition running at the moment to win tickets to Handel’s Messiah in Christ Church Cathedral. It’s all part of the Dublin Handel Festival running from April 13th to 19th.
It’s a truly wonderful oratorio and everyone should really see a performance of the Messiah at least once in their lives. Interesting fact (which probably everyone knows but it always fascinates me anyway) – the tradition of standing up during the Hallelujah chorus originates as follows:
“Tradition has it that King George II rose to his feet at this point. As the first notes of the triumphant Hallelujah Chorus rang out, the king rose. Royal protocol has always demanded that whenever the monarch stands, so does everyone in the monarch’s presence. Thus, the entire audience stood too, initiating a tradition that has lasted more than two centuries.”
So, there you are now – the crazy hazy days of royal obedience.
