Ryan Tubridy on blogging
By
Once again, Twitter proved it’s value to me yesterday morning by alerting me to an item on The Tubridy Show on RTE Radio 1. It was all about blogging. In the hot seat representing bloggers was Damien Mulley, Suzy Byrne and Valerie O’Connor. Having only the iPhone about me, I kept my fingers crossed that the 3G signal would hold while I listened to it streamed live. And hold the signal did for the 20 or so minutes of the discussion.
Tubridy was obviously tailoring the conversation towards his audience, because I genuinely don’t believe that a guy in his mid 30’s can be so dismissive of blogging and bloggers. Actually, I’d go a little step further and say he appears to be mildly dismissive of the internet as well. He has a big problem with trusting information online but used extreme examples (e.g. people messing on Wikipedia) to back up his point.
He questioned the qualifications of bloggers – as if a qualification were needed to form an opinion and post it online. I was hoping someone on the blogging panel reminded Tubridy that he started off in RTE as a runner on the Pat Kenny show and has an Arts degree from UCD. How does that qualify him for anything in particular? All in all, it was a very interesting discussion. I thought the panellists did an excellent job in fielding all his questions and putting up with the silly jibes about bloggers even when the “lunatic texters” opinions were read out.
Check IrishBlogs.ie for more posts about the Tubridy Show interview or listen to it yourself by visiting the Tubridy Show podcasts directory and looking for the Podcast called “Blogging”.

I don’t get his anti-internet to be honest, wikipedia isn’t a valid answer in my opinion, there are plently of reliable sites on the internet. He needs to get his facts straight.
