Win a signed Edgar Mueller Poster

By aj@lecraic

You might remember seeing the above on Dun Laoghaire pier during the Festival of World Cultures in August last year. It’s a stunning piece of 3D Pavement Art by Edgar Mueller. I used a photograph of it as one of the weekly headers on this blog in October. The only Creative Commons image I could find showed the artwork fading away, but it was still impressive nonetheless.

The Daily Mail published a feature on Edgar’s work this week and has another photograph of the icy artwork along with more fabulous examples of his work.

Due to popular demand, Edgar has made the poster of the Dun Laoghaire work available to buy on his website. Each one is individually signed and measures 594 x 841 mm.

Edgar has very kindly sponsored a prize of one of the posters to the person who is closest in making guesses to the 3 questions below. Just leave a comment to enter the competition. Best of luck.

1. How many photographs were taken by Edgar while the project was in progress?

2. How much paint (in litres) did Edgar use to paint the work?

3. What is the actual, real life, size of the painting?

Photograph of “The Crevasse” above is (c) Edgar Mueller and used here with permission from the artist.

Wow, that is absolutely spectacular. I hadn’t seen that before. He must have an incredible mind (not to mention) talent to produce something like that.

I’m not even going to guess at the questions. Great photograph.

Ah go on, give it a go – sure it’s a guess like any one else is going to make ?

Ok you’ve twisted my arm.

having spent the evening furiously calculating tins of paint x the size of the pier x the angle of the sun divided by the price of a pint of Guinness here are my answers;

1. 1 photograph

2. 200 litres of paint

3. I’d say about 250m squared (give or take depending on the price of Guinness in Dun Laoighre)

Am I a winner?

Jaypers – you have to be arm twisted to enter a free comp :) Reminds me of the joke where the guy goes into the chapel day after day, week after week pleading with the Lord to let him win the Lotto. His patience wears thin after months of visiting and praying for the Lotto win. One day, finally, he’s in the chapel and saying his usual “please let me win the Lotto”. Next thing he hears the booming heavenly voice say “Well meet me half way – buy a lottery ticket”… :-)

Entry duly noted – lets see what other guesses come in first !

Love it! I want that design for our floor, it’d make for interesting entrances from people.

Fingers X’d

Take a wild guess sure, I need more than 1 for it to be a competition :)

I love Edgar Muellers work, though i’ve never had the pleasure of seeing one in real life, it’s on my list of things to go see. In relation to this competition, I also reckon it’s around “250 square meter picture”. What happens if we all get it right or have we? :)

Great photo!
I’m gonna guess
40 photos.
140 litres of paint
I’d say that the painting is 20 metres x 50 metres

thanks for doing the comp

Hi Sandy, it will be person who gets the closest guesses on the 3 questions. If everyone gets it right, then it’s a straightforward draw. – but you’ll need to guess at all 3 questions – not just the size question.

Is there anyway you can find out and where Edgar’s working would be great to see work in progress.

3.250 square meters
