Are Irish teachers dunces?

Teachersaredunces

This really beggars belief. The brother tells me the school tour has been organised for my nephew’s years in secondary school. It’s a skiing trip for 4 days to Switzerald at a cost of €1,100 per person. Holy sweet mother of divine downturns, but that’s an awful whack of money to lash out on a 4 day trip. Strikes me that the teachers behind the organising of the trip are incredibly selfish by not consulting parents first. It’s obvious a skiing trip is something that “took their fancy” since they are probably going to for a fraction of that amount or free of charge. Neither of my nephews seem keen on a skiing trip but there isn’t an option B in place as an alternative.

Apart from the ridiculous cost – I would question state employees arbitrarily deciding to take money out of the Irish economy by making a decision like this. There are a host of activity adventure centres around the country that I’m sure could do with the business. There are plenty of hotels that could do with the business. There are plenty of shops/restaurants in small towns that could do with the business….

I just wonder how many millions are going to be spent by school tours going out of Ireland this year and next?

The Department of Education ought to make recommendations PRONTO that schools should stay at home this year and support Irish business.

€1,100 for four days is redicilous no matter what country the trip is for! It is no way to teach children about handling money. In fact four days under canvas would teach them far more about life in those early years. Leave foreign travel until the children are old enough to appreciate it.

What happens to the family with more than one child?

AJ, I am sure Irish teachers are no more dunces than other nationalities’.

You do know you made one omission, don’t you? You haven’t factored in cost of broken leg and associated hospital care, anguish (mother’s) and lots of Toblerone to be consumed to numb all the pain. Skiing trip – my foot. It amounts to child abuse to send children from countries where snow is so absent as to render the place into virtual standstill during the few hours a year it falls.

On the other hand, AJ, if your nephew had been invited to go on four days’ of sledging down some benign little hills 550 Euros would have been well spent for the sheer joy and fun of it.

True Grannymar, it is a mental amount of money. Trying to remember the school tours we went on, but I’m sure it wasn’t the best part of a months wages. Mad stuff. My brother has 2 so it would be 2,200..

Ursula – ah, sledging – happy memories of the sledge field a 2 minute walk from where I am right now. All houses now, but we did get snow and spent the day there – not even on a slegde – we used big plastic bags!
