What’s on the telly?

RTEGuideChristmasEdition

You know it’s almost Christmas when … The double edition of the RTE Guide hits the shelves. There can’t be many households in the country that don’t get a copy of it. Back in my schoolgoing days we always got the RTE Guide, TV Times and the Radio Times. If I remember correctly, each guide only carried certain channel listings so the purchase of the triumvirate was a necessity.

Ryan Tubridy is there again this year. He must have something in his contract that ensures a place on the bumper edition. Good to see Kathyrn Thomas making an appearance. Someone said to me she looks pregnant. Not in this picture though. See they’ve given the legend that is Larry Gogan a spot on the inside cover. Way to go Larry! Have to say his photo looks a bit “Weekend at Bernies”.

And the Photoshop geek in me has to mention that Pat Shortt is holding a mocked up RTE Guide on the cover, but when you zoom in on the magazine cover he’s holding it’s just blank. It’s fixed on the cover story article on Page 16 though :-) Yep. I know what you’re thinking – but I don’t actually have too much time on my hands. Really I don’t.

Haven’t had a real good look through the programmes that are on yet. Won’t really watch a whole ton though. Hope Oliver and Willy Wonka are on. Most definitely won’t be watching Killinaskully – can’t get my head around how this is so popular and will probably top the ratings again this year.

What’s on your must see list this Christmas? Will you even bother with the goggle box? Do tell.

Will definitely get in my annual Wizard of Oz fix at some stage. I’ve never seen ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ so hopefully that’ll be on one day too.

Merry Christmas!
Eileen

With you on the Killinascully thing. I don’t get it’s popularity.

I’ll be planning out my Christmas viewing this week.

3

Love Actually; actually. But I just turned it off before Hugh Grant started dancing.
xx

Oh Eileen, you’re in for a treat – it’s magic. I have it on video and it’s a firm favourite of mine.

I tried to “get into it” Darren, but – meh. The way some people talk about it – it’s like a religion for them!

Never seen Love actually, but probably not missing anything I dare say

5

Give Love Actually a try. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a lovely feel good movie.

I remember we used to buy the special RTE Guide years ago – now we just use the on-screen programme guide…

Although, to be honest, Christmas TV is a load of crap.

7

We have something similar with the festive edition of the Radio Times.
I’m planning to sit down later with some roast chestnuts to pick out all the films I’ve watched countless times before so I can watch them again, the Eric and Ernie and Tommy Cooper repeats and the other little gems that come out at this time of year.

Flicking through the festive Radio Times seems to mark the official start of Christmas :)

I’ve jut laughed my ass off at the weekend at bernie’s bit!

9

Good eye on the cover! They missed an opportunity for a bit of a laugh there, or is it symbolic?

I never use the on screen guides at all. Always like a printed version – very old school.

Good old Eirc and Ernie – they were great. My dad is a big fan of Tommy Cooper, does a good impression of him too!

:-) Weekend at Bernie’s – a classic

Could be symbolic alright. Must be some pressure getting it out on time.

I wonder could I order a copy of the RTE guide from here in Boston. I’m away this Christmas and missing home a bit.

There is a subscription option at

http://shop.rteguide.ie/

but if it’s just one copy (i.e. the Christmas edition) I don’t know of any way of doing this. Maybe a family member could buy one locally and post it to you?

Eoghain, The RTE Guide Christmas edition is out now. If you can suggest a way of sending me your address I would be happy to put a copy in the post for you. Happy Christmas.

That is very good of you Claire. What Christmas spirit! I’ll email you.
