Why I won’t be pre-ordering Grandad’s book
By
One of Ireland’s top 20 bloggers is Grandad. He has a book coming out in January. I’m getting it, as will a good many others I’m sure.
Amazon have it on pre-order at the moment but I won’t be availing of this opportunity. I think ordering (or pre-ordering) a book on Amazon by an Irish author and published by an Irish publisher stinks. It stinks even more in the current economic climate. I only have to walk around the town I live in to see retail businesses struggling. A lot of shops are boarded up and vacant. Thankfullly, one shop that was bustling with shoppers when I visited last week was the book shop.

With only a few weeks to Christmas, and it being a Saturday – a busy bookshop is to be expected since books make great presents. But what happens come January when the traditional post Christmas slump comes? Bridge Street Books has been around for a good many years now, and I hope it will be there for a long time to come. It will only do so provided there are people who value having a bookshop in their community above saving a couple of euro on the cover price of a book.
So with that in mind, if you WOULD like to pre-order Grandad’s book and don’t want to give money to a foreign, faceless, greedy, corporate behemoth like Amazon, leave a comment below. I’ll buy up to 10 copies of it and post it to you free of charge when it is published. I will buy them all in my local bookshop. All you need to is pay me the price I paid for the book by paypal. I will only post within the 32 counties of Ireland.
Buy Irish folks, that’s all I’m trying to say – especially when it’s an Irish product.
