AJ, the apple of my eye is seventeen years old. Which does not make me less passionate on the subject of pushchairs "facing away".

It's criminal.

A child will feel secure, consequently be confident, and learn reading faces, by being in eye contact with and observing the person he/she most loves and depends on, ie his parent. Can you imagine being carted around looking at giants' knees (adults), lower supermarket shelves, being ignored by indifferent strangers and wondering if it's still Mama behind you pushing the vehicle you, so mercilessly, were strapped into?

May I recommend to any of your readers: Next time you see one of these slightly forelorn tinies facing the wrong way, look them in the eye and give them a smile. They'll beam back. As human transactions go it's a win win.

Good on you, AJ, to draw attention to this subject. You also might wish to address the subject of mothers who SHOUT at their children to be quiet. I was nearly attacked the other day when I pointed out to someone that she made more noise than her offspring.
