Terms and conditions? They’re having a laugh..
By
From one of the Sunday Papers. Advertising for a Acres Cove in Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim.
Across the top of the ad is the headline “TO CLEAR — TO CLEAR — TO CLEAR”.
They are words associated with purchases that don’t run in the hundreds of thousands. But the bit that gets me is the all reasonable offers considered line with the Terms and Conditions apply.
I was tempted to ring up and find up what terms and conditions could possibly apply to the consideration of an offer like this. If I was selling you my car and said all reasonable offers considered, I don’t need to say terms and conditions apply. The clue is in the word considered. You make an offer, I consider it, and either accept or reject your offer. All the other details are worked out after that.
Perhaps the poor agents have being infected with the terms and conditions virus. Every second ad on the radio is the same, especially for financial products. 10 seconds of description about the product, and 20 seconds telling me that they are regulated by the financial services regulator, offer only applies to one eyed pirates – you know the drill.
Someone should just create a website called TermsandConditions.ie. Then the ad could quote “For terms and conditions of this offer visit termsandconditions.ie” – or maybe text a number and get the terms and conditions back by return. Anything is better than trying to deliver complicated terms and conditions like a chipmunk on heat.
Back to our property selling friends though. What’s a reasonable offer for a property nowadays. How about ring them up, ask how much it cost to build, add a couple of percentage points for reasonable profit and strike a deal. Sounds about right for today’s climate I think.
Update : ha, see someone has registered termsandconditions.ie – wonder what they have planned for it.

One of the reasons I love you, AJ: You make me laugh out loud – even at 4 in the morning.
By the way, what’s a chipmunk on heat like? (And please don’t answer: Terms and conditions apply).
Most happy to make you an unreasonable offer not easily refused,
U

The Disney chipmunks would sound even higher than they do already!
A good old LOL at 4 in the morning – can’t beat that but you should be deep in REM sleep at that time!
