Back of fag box book review – Six frames for thinking about information

SixFramesForThinking

Bought this as a Ebook on the Waterstones book store as I had some points to redeem.

Text of review reads..

Described as a “technique for coping with the masses of information we are faced with every day.. which will utterly change the way you interpret information”.

By looking at information through one of six different shapes, De Bono posits that we can become very smart and aware readers with clearly defined parameters and goals when reading. The technique has some merit but unfortunately it is buried in very poorl written, repetitive, etc. ridden text.

Not worth the asking price. Rating 1 star out of 5.

I thought de Bono went out of fashion ca 1979. His books and I never clicked. I found him so irritating that I found myself questioning my own sanity. However, I do love shapes; so, AJ, please put me out of my misery: round, square, oblong, a blob, the product of a mincer? What? Can you give me the short version of how to maximize my brain in order to deal with information overload? Diagrams not needed.

Edward de Bono is perhaps the greatest thinker ever. Reading the above commentary [Ursula and earlier] makes me realize:

- they do not understand De Bono; equivalent to someone criticizing “addition and substraction” just because they are not willing to grasp it. Q.E.D.

- they talk about being “irritated” but the real irritation is that the above people do not know “how to think”. I have no doubt – they will be very irritating to people with whom they talk to; whereas in contrast de Bono is very interesting, so much so that thousands both turn up and pay a lot to hear him talk. Q.E.D

- one person talks about de Bono being “repetitive”. My answer: GREAT! He needs to be because these tools are SO POWERFUL yet so under-used , and not even grasped DESPITE repetition by the above commentators ! So de Bono needs to REPEAT EVEN MORE – not less!
