From the mists of time – a classic Marty Whelan photo

No one knows it it was a photoshop job or not, but it’s from a recently resurrected discussion on boards.ie.
The last comment on the thread was 16th August 2004! And then someone jumps in yesterday to say

Seriously, anyone have a pic that works?

I wonder what search phrase brought the inquisitive boards.ie member to the ancient thread?
There is one other famous Irish-celebrity-trouser mishap, courtesy of Terry Wogan. How the hell did the wardrobe people not spot it?

That pic is not Photoshopped – was published in the RTE Guide to publicise some National Lottery game that sent you to Rome . . . had it hanging in our bathroom for a few years to give everyone a laugh & to give credence to all those Marty Whelan = studmuffin stories

Come on, AJ, pull the other one: I know how good you are at putting your own creative touches to any pic or poster (I particularly liked the recent “gays on trains”; I considered sending it to one of my friends who is half Irish, and gay; I decided against it since he now lives in a decidedly homophobic part of the world).
Anyway, the angle is wrong, and cotton doesn’t stretch like that!
As to Wogan, many scenarious spring to mind. But I don’t want to put any ideas into your innocent nieces’ and nephews’ minds of how to prepare their favourite uncle’s trousers before he puts them on in the morning!
