Big babies ? Blame Fido Dido
By
Is it just me, or are there an awful lot of big babies about lately? I’m not talking baby fat here. I’m talking seriously obese babies spilling out of prams designed for 2 year olds. A 6 month old baby should NOT look like a 2 year old unless George Lucas has a hand in matters. Can the parents not see how oversized their baby is? These mini Bernard Manning babies are not cutchy cutchy coo material, they’re cutchy cutchy whoah there. It’s tragic to see obese parents pushing these obese babies, knowing that they are most likely going to grow up and have their lifespan shortened by the choices their parents make.
Yesterday was a prime example. I saw a mother pour 7UP into her baby’s bottle, fill it 3/4 full, shake it, and give it to her already giant sized offspring who eagerly sucked it down. If I didn’t see it with my own eyes I wouldn’t have believed it.
I agree with the idea of a ‘License to Parent’
Parenting is a serious responsibility. It is the hardest job in the world to do, yet it’s the easiest job to get — no education, no training, no experience with kids (of any age), no tests, no interviews, no probation period, no periodic evaluations, and hardly any risk of being fired.
It is the most irrevocable decision one will ever make in one’s life. It should be seen as a privilege, not a right — it shouldn’t be automatic or accidental, and it should certainly not be taken lightly. Children are too precious to be created without making a careful, conscious decision about them. Unfortunately, creating a child takes very little effort and even less intelligence. To be a good parent, however, is to achieve one of the most difficult and important goals of modern life.
More time should be spent considering children than conceiving them.
It will never happen though, and mores the pity. Even a bit of nutrition training wouldn’t go amiss. But then, it really shouldn’t take training to know that 7UP isn’t suitable for a baby. An IQ greater than that of a woodpecker – that would be a start….

The wisdom of the Tod from Parenthood “You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car – hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they’ll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father. ” And after that he shakes his head and all the profundity falls out.

YAY! Eugenics! Yeah, there are some gimps out there who will (unfortunately for their offspring) raise other gimps. 7up eh? Christ, I hope it wasn’t diet, aspartame is nasty enough as it is. Like Bill Hicks said, let’s all take a moment out from our rutting to work out the whole food/air deal. We have more people on the planet than can be supported without oil, guess what, it’s running out. Aint gonna be pretty.

Apologies for the duplicate commenting, I suspect foul play.

Your first posting that pains me beyond the fizz. A friend of mine fell out with me when I questioned the wisdom of giving her four year old daughter a coke, on a daily basis. I was shown the door.
My son, born mightily healthy on the highest centile both in weight and length (both the midwife and health visitor were so delighted they claimed him as their own) is approaching the age of 17 faster than I was able to change his nappies what seems, to me, not that long ago. He is tall and slender. Whilst he appreciates the odd beer or glass of wine with dinner I have never seen him down a coke. So I must have done something right. What pisses me off, big time, excuse language, that parents don’t engage brain; possibly because they haven’t got one. How much easier to stuff your child’s face with liquid/food than engage with the fruit of your loins. I’ll stop myself here.
Amen.

There’s plenty of butt reaming assholes out there Dan, more than I can count anyway.
Lets hope there is an alternative to oil Thrift!
You were right to question her wisdom Ursula, I’d have done the same. I so wanted to say something to the 7UP lady but I had to bite my tongue. Truth be told, she looked a little bit brain dead and probably wouldn’t have had a clue what I was talking about.
A parent is bound to want to feed their child well. The problem really only comes when the parent goes for the easy option every time – i.e. here’s some sweets, don’t bother me I’m busy.

Had to de-spam that last comment as well Dan.

Babies have a wierd metabolic rate though… it’s very hard to overfeed them, they’re just naturally chubby.
Maybe that mudder was giving her kid 7up because it had a tummy-bug? Excellent way to raise blood sugar levels in babbies.
Unfortunately you’re probably right, but you can never really judge from an outsider’s point of view.
I was born an 11 pound baby and was so fat it was evil, but I stretched thank Jehovah.

Ah K8, you didn’t see this baby. Over the last 4 years I’ve seen and photographed countless thousands of babies, so I’m pretty much an authority on how big they have become. And I was speaking to the lady with the baby – and quite honestly I’ve seen enough mothers like her to know she doesn’t give a crap what she gives the child. I’m in Dublin city centre working….
Same goes with mothers giving toddlers packets of Chickatees – all those horrible artifical corn snacks. I just don’t get it.
