It’s true, you can’t make a silk purse

By

out of pigs’ ears, but you can flog them as doggie treats.

JumboEarz

These are not just pigs’ ears, these are jumbo pigs’ ears. Can you hear the dulcet tones of Dearbhla Kirwan flogging these in her best M&S voice (it is her that does the voiceover for those ads isn’t it?)

On sale in your local Super Valu. Apparantly, they aren’t recommended for dogs though.

They have been on sale here in Pet shops for years, without the fancy packaging. They seem to be very popular.

I’ve no doubt they are nothing new and pretty sure pet shops everywhere sell them. It was just the fact of them being packaged up like that on sale beside the pasta that drew my attention to it!

The picture on the front looks like the dog is eating his own ear…did we learn nothing from the Mad Cows!

Hadn’t thought about that but these ears looked so incinerated I doubt they are still classed as offal :-)

AJ, I can tell you are traumatized by pigs’ ears being sold right next to pasta. Between you and your commentators I am totally confused as to whose consumption (man or beast) they are for. And whilst ears might be awful (depending on size) they most certainly cannot be classified as “offal”.

And, AJ, lesser material than a sow’s ears have been made into a silk purse. Oddly, only two nights ago I managed to prove my point – at least to myself.

It’s definitely for the dogs despite it’s positioning in the supermarket.I had a summer job at a meat counter when I was about 16 and ears were always classed as offal , hence my reference.

They appear to be beside dog toys.

When I was 16 I scratched my arse and made jokes about how in the future I’d be making jokes about it.
