Spikelookalike

As part of BBC Radio 4’s Happy Mondays series, Mark Watson has written a sitcom starring Ardal O’Hanlon as the owner of a lookalike agency. I had a listen using the BBC iPlayer last night, and it’s worth tuning in to.

BBC radio 4’s comedy section is pretty much going as strongly as ever… always find that odd considering the huge amount of extra chances for tv slots on bbc 3&4.

Hadn’t thought about that but a good few programmes have made their way from the radio over the years - Alan Partridge, Whose line is it anyway, Dead Ringers, Little Britain etc.

let’s ignore those last 3 you said and replace them with On the Hour(renamed the Day Today for television), The League of Gentlemen, 15 minutes of misery(renamed 15 storeys high for television), absolute power and Fist of Fun.

The BBC used to test new talent on radio first(Mighty Boosh would’ve been one of the last ones), now they do it on bbc 3&4 but some people(eg. Chris Addison) still done radio first.

Radio will always have its place though. And we shouldn’t ignore the things we don’t like - all of god’s creatures got a place in the choir ye know. ;-)
