Chemical Gormley

chemicalgormley

Not content with stealing our water and dumping their rubbish on us, news reached this part of the world during the week that South Dublin County Council plans to dispose of some toxic waste in County Wicklow. Seven cylinders of chemicals are to be destroyed at an army firing range in Manor Kilbride. 2 of the cylinders contain Hydrogen cyanide which local TD Liz McManus points out is the very same al-Qa’ida planned to use in the New York subway system.

The cylinders of waste are to be destroyed in a “controlled burn” that requires a 1 km exclusion zone and the vacation of the army camp for four days. Locals haven’t been properly informed apparantly.

McManus says :

“For far too long Wicklow was used as a dumping ground for other people’s unwanted or hazardous waste. I had hoped that this day was over, but apparently not. Minister Gormley cannot allow this crazy and risky plan to go ahead”

And so say I.

So what should be done with the waste instead?

I’d love to have an answer Eoin, but unfortunately I don’t. The Labour Party Press release indicates that the cylinders are safe where they are so there is a question mark about why it is deemed necessary.
