I’ve just updated the header image on the site (you have noticed that I update these every week, right?
) and it’s such a great photograph that I contacted the photographer to say I was using it this week and also to get some more information on the event it was taken at.
The photographer in questions is Jonas Voss from Copenhagen, living in Ireland since 2005. Jonas is currently with Google Ireland and works in the online sales and operations division where he strategises and analyses for a living. When he’s not working for Google, he likes to do cool things – one of which is kiting.
This interest led him to the Irish Kitesurfing Associations ‘Battle of the Bay’ competition held this weekend on Dollymount beach, where the photograph used in the header was taken. Have to say it looks like brilliant fun and Jonas has definitely captured the energy of the event in his photoset.

Alan, thanks for the plug! (:
Ok so this is a joke, or am I losing the plot?
I noticed a change in header image ok, BUT what I see is certainly not the ‘Dollier’ that I spent many childhood summer days on, building sand castles.
The Image I see has a lorry of stones, two guys driving cattle and a sign for a petrol station forecourt.
When I click on the links they all take me to a Jiglu tags page.
Can I expect the men in white coats to arrive shortly or do I need to see my Optician?
Help!
@grannymar: Try to clear your cache, or refresh the page a couple of times, that should take care of it. I don’t think the white coats will be around anytime soon (:
Grannymar, what Jonas said ^^
Sorry about the confusion with the Jiglu links. They are automatically inserted and are identied with a line underneath the link. I must look at Jiglu and see if I can change that.
@Jonas – happy to. Glad you liked the way I used the header image
Phew!
Thanks Alan & Jonas.
That’s more like it. Even the sea is the colour I remember, and I am starting to shiver already
Great picture.
I have tried kite surfing and it was bags of fun – I never looked like that though…
I’m tempted to give it a go myself – I didn’t even know anyone was doing it here!
