Come on, come on let’s spay together

This week is Spay Week. John Gormley was at the launch, for it is his department which oversees the work of dog pounds in Ireland. In 2006, 14,598 unwanted dogs were destroyed. As the campaign slogan says :
“40 a day means it’s time to spay”
Ireland destroys unwanted dogs at ten times the rate of our neighbours in the UK. There are no official figures for cats, but it is estimated to be higher than that for dogs. Truly shocking stuff.
All the details are on the website. Unfortunately, it’s very text heavy and it’s not very clear what a dog owner should do during this week, but I’m assuming a visit to the local vet would clarify matters.
I like the video on the site though.

It’s one of those “Vote Yes to Lisbon or we strangle the puppies” campaigns, isn’t it?

[...] Gormley doesn’t neuter animals: he stares at them sternly and their jiggly bits fall off. Full story at Le Craic. Digg this [...]

Not far off the truth, they’ve used just about every other trick in the book!
