I'm afraid Deborah that your husband comes from a country that produces 2 million tons of dog crap every year which is probably nothing compared to India and China combined. It's funny that you never hear 'environmentalists' mention this problem.

You're right Deborah, it is shameful and I despair at what can be done to change peoples attitudes. A start might be for the local authorities to have litter wardens walking the streets and being very visible. The clampers are very visible, so why not litter wardens ?

The litter problem is just atrocious. People blame it on immirants, but come on folks, it's ALWAYS been an issue. The husband is American and he cannot comprehend how people here have no respect for their surroundings. It's embarassing for me when we have in-laws visiting and we're showing them the town and dodging vomit on Saturday mornings or dog droppings just about everywhere. What is the problem?

My Dad thinks it goes back to colonialism... a bad habit that's been passed down the generations from days we thought littering would be a way to spite the people who took our land. I don't know about that, but the second you cross the border North the difference is astonishing. There must be something we can do.
