Dustin the Turkey out of Eurovision – bloggers react

Personally, I am delighted he didn’t get through and I sincerely hope that this will be Ireland’s last attempt at entering the Eurovision EVER. I no longer bother with the whole spectacle, but I do have fond memories as a kid being allowed stay up later than normal to watch the show. After the early evening bath, it was into the jim jams and settle down on the couch ‘avec le rest of the famille’. Bottle of TK Lemonade, tayto crisps doused with vinegar, munchies and what not. Genuinely edge of seat stuff during the voting. In later years, the excitement was still there but the early evening baths were not and neither was the vinegar on the tayto – I outgrew that particular delicacy.

I had a major crush on Niamh Kavanagh. Thought the song was deadly too.

It will forever remind me of a final year college project I was working on at the time – Niamh was on the radio all the time which suited me just fine. Happy days indeed.

No, I won’t even bother watching on Saturday although I know it still pulls in huge numbers for RTE in the ratings. I’ll content myself to re-living the glory years on Youtube instead.

Good night Europe, I won’t miss you at all, at all.
