and to anyone else and their families going through similar.

Ronnie has the quote of the year from today’s Irish Daily Mail. Simple, direct and to the point and a point worth remembering.

for the first time in his life, music is not his main priority.

‘I couldn’t give a fiddlers fuck about records – I just want to stay alive’

The 4 hour work week rubs off on me

Writing by aj@lecraic on Monday, 28 of April , 2008 at 9:56 pm

I’ve mentioned in another post that I’m reading a book called the 4 hour work week at the moment. Won’t bore you with the details of what it entails but one of the things it drives home is to question everything you do.

There I was on Saturday morning about to sit down and do some work on a 21st birthday invite for 2 Dublin lads who wanted a design in the style of Nuts magazine. I bought a copy of it on way home on Friday evening to make sure I got a good idea what the magazine is all about :-) (for the record, just 3 things – beer, tits and football).

Aaanywho. It was a nice enough morning and I thought to myself, “Do I really need to do this myself?” – the answer was of course “no I don’t”. Before reading this book I would have spent an hour or two designing the invite but this time I delegated the task to someone who I was paying to work the day anyway. I took a wander down the town and had a nice relaxing Saturday morning instead.

I came in this morning to take a look at the finished design and it was as good as or probably better than I’d have done myself.

This may not sound like anything special – but for someone who always feels he has to do everything for it to be perfect, it’s a step forward…

Nuts magazine though.. It’s a classic.

Apprentice bits ahead of Week 6

Writing by aj@lecraic on Monday, 28 of April , 2008 at 8:09 pm

The remaining hopefuls will this week design some greetings cards for occasions they have come up with themselves. Apparantly there are bare bottoms in this episode, so those of a nervous disposition should probably tune out. Should be fun to see what they come up with.

The company the candidates worked with in this episode have a lovely design blog – check it out here. le craic would love to know what the 2 designers thought of the candidates and what they were like to work with. Maybe they will get in touch

Sir Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan are engaged in a war of words at the moment. Morgan says Sugar is revolting. Sugar hits back by saying Morgan is a monkey on Simon Cowell’s show. It’s all a bit tragic.

The dynamic duo also had a rant about their Bafta snub. Love the photshop job TV Scoop :-)

Juicy juicy juicy… Sir Alan sacks two of the women candidates in an upcoming episode when he finds out they attempted to bribe a market trader in a task set in Morocco! Who could it be now?

Adrian Chiles decides to stick with the beeb and turn down ITV.

It all kicks off again on Wednesday evening at 9pm on BBC1. Be there or somewhere else doing something far more exciting?

Hurrah for the new Bus Eireann website that doesn’t want my money

Writing by aj@lecraic on Monday, 28 of April , 2008 at 7:26 pm

They’ve gone and jazzed it all up. Look at it, it’s all shiny and new.

Buseireannweb

It looks lovely, but the ticket booking part isn’t working and I’ve been trying to book my ticket for tomorrow for the last 45 minutes. Grr… I’m giving up on it now. Teething problems I’m sure. Now I’ll have to run the gauntlet of not having the right change in the morning for a weekly ticket whose cost I do not know. I’ll stick a €50 in my pocket and hope for the best!

Irish mammies defend yourselves and your sambos

Writing by aj@lecraic on Monday, 28 of April , 2008 at 1:55 pm

Sparsambos

Dear Spar,

Feck off would ye. What’s the matter with the sambos made by our Irish mammies? You think you’re great with your fancy “Signature collection” do you? Bagels stuffed with cream cheese and smoked salmon; focaccio bread brimming with olives and sun dried tomatoes with a hint of pesto. Big deal, we never asked for any of this fancy fare in the first place.

We were all quite happy with batch bread and tayto long before you lot muscled in our mammies territory. Are you saying that your stuff is better than the soggy tomato sandwiches with Brennan’s bread I used to eat when I went on school tours in the summer? I relished those and they were made with love and care, unlike yours.

No, be off and take it all back to the factory with you, we don’t want it any more. Our mammies are better than the Italian, Greek, Mexican and Jewish American mothers you mention in your ad. A signature collection indeed.

Yours etc,

le craic

What sort of sambo’s did your ma make for you? leave a comment with your favourites.
