CSI:Drogheda

By

The CSI in this case is Cockroaches Settle In: Drogheda.

The thought of cockroaches gives me the heebie jeebies and hence there will be no fun photoshopping for this blog entry.  They remind me of the creature from Alien. Horrible things they are and the poor folk of Drogheda are apparantly suffering from an attack of them.

Cockroaches aren’t native to Ireland and the article in the Drogheda Independent say they are becoming a problem due to the increase in foreign travel and food imports coming from countries where cockroaches are common.

Pity the poor labour councillor in the town who has had the pleasure of receiving dead cockroaches in plastic jars at his clinics from people who aren’t content with telling him of the problem. That’s not enough. The shock tactic of  bring-a-longa-cockroach is a bit pointless but I guess maybe it is a way of venting.

It leaves me wondering how vigilant are the customs people on checking for stuff like this coming into the country? By all accounts it would seem that anyone who tries to get goods in from the US to Ireland all always slapped with duty and tax, but those clever cockroaches must give the customs men the slip on the runway at Dublin Airport.

So, we already have foreign worms in the country, now cockroaches. Wonder what will be next, Snakes? St. Patrick would surely turn in his grave then.
