The wonder of you
By
A post by Rick today pointed me to Grannymar’s blog and an entry she wrote entitled “The important things in life”. It’s heartbreaking to read and scary also, because none of us are immune from the ups and downs of this rollercoaster called life.
I’m sure as I sit here writing this, there is someone in this small town I live in grappling with the very same issue. I could pass them in the street tomorrow and they would most likely be getting on with things better than I do at times.
In my own job, I get to talk to people and photograph their children and create birth announcements or some other personalised product from the range I produce. On more than one occasion over the 4 years I’ve been doing this job, I’ve had one or both parents back at some point in the future to order some new item with a picture of their child. Chatting away to them while taking their order, I would naturally ask how the child was. To hear the response that the child had died would quite literally be like a punch in the stomach.
Those brief encounters really do make you appreciate what you have – this isn’t an easy task to do as we are hard wired to always want more – but the reality checks help.
Coincidentally, I came across a website called Prayerit.com today – if you ever want a handy online reality check and see what challenges others are facing today – pay it a visit and maybe say a prayer too.
